From time to time any one of the 40 Advisory Neighborhood Commissions may also have an opening for a staff person. The positions vary from ANC to ANC. They range from largely clerical or secretarial positions at one end to highly professional positions that require advanced degrees and experience at the other. The positions may be called Office Manager, Administrative Assistant, Staff Director, Executive Secretary, or Executive Director.
Staff duties range from answering phones and stuffing envelopes, to copying and collating documents for monthly meetings, to drafting minutes and keeping the ANC’s books, to representing the ANC before the ABC Board or BZA and to preparing correspondence and writing reports on community issues.
In most cases the positions are part-time. Although ANC staff may be eligible to participate in the DC government health insurance programs and workers comp, they are not considered DC government employees. Position requirements and compensation are set by the ANCs themselves.
If you are interested in working for an ANC, the Office of ANCs would be happy to receive your resume and any related information and share it with an ANC as vacancies occur. Send your information to [email protected].
